Byron Ricks

Byron has lived in the DFW area since 1998 and plans to never leave because he absolutely loves the community and the people. Byron only had one sibling, a brother who unfortunately passed away at an early age leaving Byron to take care of his aging mother. His mother’s health challenges included dementia, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and arthritis. Byron took care of his mother five years until her health challenges became too great for he and his wife to handle. She was admitted to assisted living where she lived another two years,  where he visited her weekly, if not daily. As the Owner and Operator of Comfort Keepers Frisco, Byron’s mission is to make a difference in the lives of seniors by providing the same level of care for them that he provided for his mother.

Before becoming a healthcare professional, Byron earned an MA in Human Behavior from National University in San Diego, CA. His professional background includes positions as public affairs manager, regional academic coordinator, director of administrative services in higher education,  and president of The Seminars Group.  He is an entrepreneur with experience in management, human resources, sales and marketing, and has participated on leadership teams responsible for implementing human resources standards.  Byron currently serves as President and Chairman of the Board for Legacy Preparatory Charter Schools.

Today, Byron takes pride in his work with Comfort Keepers. When he cared for his mother he was unaware of services like those that he offers now. “I would have loved to have had a caregiver spend time with my mom when I was out of town, and have someone visit her on a regular basis when I couldn’t be there. It would have been nice to have someone she could relate to and connect with to get her out of the house. She was a big time shopper, she loved a bargain!”

It is Byron’s goal to spread the good news about Comfort Keepers so other adult children and seniors will know they have choices; they don’t have to go it alone.

Meghan Sutherland

Client Care Coordinator

Meghan Sutherland is the Client Care Coordinator and a Certified Nursing Assistant for Comfort Keepers Frisco. She began with Comfort Keepers in 2012 as a Certified Nursing Assistant, then in January 2013 was moved into the office to become the Client Care Coordinator. Meghan has been working in the healthcare field for the last four years, starting in hospice care and then moving her way into in-home care. She received her BS in Applied Sociology; Age and Aging and Psychology from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota.  While in school Meghan volunteered and worked with the seniors in the community at the local senior center.

Meghan grew up in Minnesota and after college graduation she packed up, moved south to Dallas, and has been here ever since.

Meghan said “I am very passionate about my job and enjoy helping seniors and their families.  I think the part I enjoy the most is the relationships that are made and the personal wisdom each client or family member has to offer!  I have learned so much in the last 8 years working with the older generations, it has helped me grow as a person and woman.

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and her two rescued dogs, traveling, cooking and spending time outdoors. Food and cooking are two things she really loves. Her kitchen is her happy place! She is always trying to find tasty new recipes to delight friends and family

Vannashia McFarlane

Vannashia McFarlane is a current employee for Comfort Keepers that has been working there for the past 1.5 years. As a married mom with three children, she has worked as a CNA/Caregiver for over 5 years, working with everything from pediatric patients to geriatric patients. It all began for her when she was a child, as she always dreamed of doing the important task of being a caregiver. She has a true passion to care for those who are ill and need medical assistance. When she was deciding on a career, she chose the healthcare field because there is an opportunity to meet new people in a diverse, rewarding career with lifelong learning opportunities. In fact, she loves the healthcare field so much she decided to further her education by attending the West Coast University School of Nursing. She looks forward to continuing to grow her passion in this field.

Brenda Lee

Comfort Keeper

Brenda has been a natural caregiver since a very young age. Her mother became paralyzed from the waist down after giving birth to her younger sister. And with no father in the picture, Brenda, the oldest of three, stepped up as the care provider for her family. With the help of a very loving and caring grandmother on the weekends, Brenda’s mother returned to normal after 7 months. Later in life, Brenda was asked to care for a friend’s grandmother who was living with Alzheimer’s. She came into their family’s life and cared for their grandmother, allowing the other members of the family to return to their roles as grandchild, daughter, and son-in-law—rather than caregivers. She then found out just how important her role as a care provider was. Eventually, Brenda decided to pursue a career as a caregiver. She could continue to do what she loves and even get paid for it. It was a win-win situation. Loving, caring, and cooking for others is a dream come true for Brenda—and the rewards come back in many ways. She prays every day that she has the strength to continue to love and care for others as she would like to be cared for.
Vanitie Hernandez

Comfort Keeper

Vanitie Hernandez started caregiving more than six years ago taking care of her grandmother that was stricken with cancer and later succumbed to the illness. After her grandmother died, Vanitie decided to pursue a career in healthcare and got her C.N.A certification. Not only has Vanitie worked with seniors with various health challenges including Alzheimer’s, COPD, Parkinson’s and ALS, she has worked with disabled children and has earned many accolades from Agencies she has worked for, and families she has worked with. Vanitie was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada and has been a DFW resident for more than eleven years. Her two passions are caregiving and shopping! When asked what she gets out of caregiving, she said: “What I love most about my job is the challenge of learning what it takes to make each client’s day. It is different from client to client and some of them don’t open up right away, but when I get that first smile I know I have met the challenge for that client.” Vanitie has been married for six years and her and her husband have two lovely children and she loves spending family time with them on the weekends when she is not with a client or shopping!
